Youth Shoot 2025

New Experiences for a Young Shooting Team

On October 4th, Veterans Afield U.A. hosted a youth pheasant hunt, with 5 athletes participating from the Waterford Wolverine Shooting Team. This hunt was held at Cackle Creek Game Farm, just outside of Ashippun, WI. Each year Veterans Afield U.A. enjoys hosting this event because it is important to get our next generation of young sportsmen and sportswomen out into the field. We like to call this annual event “Passing it On.”

Even though it was a very hot and sunny, 87 degrees outside, the young shooters were excited about the experience and ready to work hard, which they did. We had 2 dogs, dog handlers, and a safety officer working the fields with our young athletes. Despite the heat, the dogs managed to flush out 13 pheasants, with the young shooters taking down 9 of them! In addition to the 5 young participants, there were 2 coaches from the shooting team with them. It was great to see these young adults shooting and having the opportunity to interact with the team and coaches. As part of the day’s experience, the young athletes learned how to safely hunt in a group with dogs and how to properly clean the pheasants. They were even able to bring home the day’s bounty for a meal. At the conclusion of the hunting experience, it was followed by group photos and a lunch at the clubhouse.

We would like to thank the young athletes and their coaches for making this an unforgettable day and a very successful hunt! The young athletes appreciated the mentorship from experienced hunters, and we appreciated these young adults giving it their all as the upcoming generation of hunters. Memories were made and fun was had by all!
