It started out as a cool and cloudy morning at Nature's Way Game Farm, but our 6 disabled Veterans were ready. We were fortunate to have 2 dog handlers and 2 flusher retrievers ready to go as well. Our Veterans included 2 in our track chairs, one on each side of the field, and 4 ambulatory Veterans walking the fields.
The hunt started off slow with the dogs putting up a few pheasants, but the deeper they got into the fields, the dogs were able to flush out more pheasants and more shooting was had by our troopers. The hunt lasted about 2 hours, and as you can see by the photo, it was well worth the effort!
We managed to harvest 13 pheasants that day. It doesn't matter who shot what or how many birds they got because that's just the frosting on the cake. What matters most is that they had a great time, enjoyed each other's company, and were able to do something outdoors they never thought they'd be able to do again.
Hunting is 1 of 4 different types of events that Veterans Afield offers to our disabled Veterans. There is no better place like Nature's Way to have these field and tower shoots. A great day and fun time was truly had by all!
